Arcade Video Games And Their Rising Popularity

Arcade Video Games And Their Rising Popularity

If you were old enough to remember the ’80s and ’90s, you must know home gaming arrived during that period. Over the decades, computer gaming became popular, which led to the creation of gaming consoles. Modern-day video games are much more advanced compared to what was there a couple of decades ago. But the popularity of retro or arcade video games is not going down as one would have expected – and nostalgia isn’t the only factor.

The element of nostalgia is certainly there, but it’s also important to acknowledge the fact that those classic games were quite well-designed. And this is despite developers having minimal digital space to work. The maximum capacity was just 4MB. The sound capabilities and graphics were also limited. Games now can weigh close to 40GB. Despite these limitations, developers ended up churning out some memorable games.

Gaming controls also have a lot to do with why people are frequently playing classic video games. Modern-day consoles have too many controls. Old joypad controls were more straightforward. Also, most classic video games are inexpensive since they are used or second hand. Newer games and consoles are significantly expensive. Though one should recognize that a great deal of effort has gone into designing and making modern video games and consoles, the prices are still quite expensive, particularly the prices of individual games.

For some people, it’s an opportunity to show their kids the games they played when they were children. The reaction videos on popular video sharing sites such as YouTube comprise reactions wherein kids are shown older video games and asked to share their thoughts.

Irrespective of the reason or logic behind you picking up your old joypad, arcade video gaming is not confined to houses or families alone. There is currently a large community of arcade video games who are sharing their passion with others. These communities organize events every year that are attended by several thousand gamers.

Proponents of retro games are of the opinion that though technology has advanced over the years, it does not necessarily imply newer games are superior to older games. At the same time, new gamers shouldn’t be complacent since most of the video games from the 1980s were much tougher compared to the games children are playing currently.

Nostalgia is a big factor, as aforementioned. It’s the ability to see through the games, feel and see the boxes that people want. Modern games have their share of pitfalls so people are currently turning their attention to the past so that they could relive some actual gaming memories.
