ARE THERE ANY TESTS SPECIFICALLY FOR ASPERGERS?
Yes, there are for children, and this is usually done when your general practitioner might ask you to take your child to a specialist to specifically test for Asperger’s, as doctors only do a broad category diagnosis under an autism spectrum disorders test and this screening does not include the specific Asperger’s syndrome analysis.
Currently, there is no specific Aspergers Test for Adults available as this is usually done in childhood
That been said, there are general assessments (in question form only), to test for symptoms and signs of Asperger’s in adults.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS AND OR SIGNS FOR ASPERGER’S SYNDROME?
• AVOIDANCE OF ANY FORM OF EYE CONTACT
• FRIENDSHIP MAKING AND OR STABILITY DIFFICULTIES
• INFERRING OF THOUGHTS, EMOTIONS AND OR FEELINGS OF OTHERS ARE LACKING OR NON EXISTENT
• INTENSE AND PROLONGED GAZING INTO NOWHERE ESPECIALLY WHEN COMMUNICATING OR IN A GROUP
• LACK OF INTEREST IN SOCIALIZING OR FRIENDSHIP MAKING
• LACK OF OR NO SOCIAL AWARENESS AND OR SKILLS
TOOLS TO ASSESS ADULTS FOR ASPERGER’S:
Some of these evaluations and or assessments used to analyze Asperger’s in Adults include:
• RITVO AUTISM ASPERGER DIAGNOSTIC SCALE (RAADS): This is an eighty question assessment in the form of a questionnaire using the analysis in language, sensory-motor skills, social interactions, interests and more other social interactions to help analyze and identify Asperger’s or the possibility of it being present. A mental professional analyzes the results as per the answers given to each question after they have analyzed it.
• ASPERGER’S QUOTIENT TEST (AQT): this is a test made up of at least fifty questions, which can be done online anytime, but this test does not diagnose or test for Asperger’s but gives more of a guideline for the mental professionals to rather see if any of the symptoms relating to Asperger’s are present to consider for any further investigations relating to it.
• AUTISM DIAGNOSTIC INTERVIEW (ADI): This test which is used for both children and adults alike, by mental professionals and other medical professionals by using questions that relates to the patients ability to communicate in a group or at least another unknown person, interests in social activities with strangers as well as family, language around others, social interaction when left alone and other behaviors relating to the clear symptoms of Asperger’s
These tests, as mentioned does not diagnose Asperger’s test in adults but will give a mental professional a guide to the next step if signs or symptoms are present in these assessments.
