Doctors Say Keep Moving To Avoid Spider Veins

Even though there have been new procedures introduced recently, when it comes to Spider Vein removal Sydney experts say surgical ablation is still considered the standard way to treat them. At times it can be difficult for some patients, especially if there is a bad case of dermatitis or any infections in the area, then doctors will consider a tourniquet to cut off the blood flow.

Can You Use Laser Surgery?

Lasers have been used for many years to have spider vein removal because it’s a non-invasive technique and considered cosmetic in nature, however, it’s typically not covered in insurance. Today, laser technology can also be used for varicose veins, using a procedure called endovenous laser ablation.

This is a minimally invasive technique used to treat superficial, larger, more tortuous varicose veins. It can be completed right in the doctors office with only local or topical anesthetic, and patients return home the same day. The doctors uses a minimal incision and inserts the laser directly into the vein. Eventually, the vein shrinks up and disappears. Doctors say the benefits to this procedure is that it’s quick, easy, and patients reduce the chances of having ulcers caused by protruding veins. Blood circulation improves and lasers leave little to no scarring.

What Causes These Spider Veins?

Generally, it can be caused by a number of things, like standing or sitting for long periods of time and weakened valves in the lower legs. Women develop spider veins and varicose veins more often than men do and are usually due to hereditary factors. Which means, if your mother or grandmother had them, you probably will too.

Other conditions related to the development of spider veins are pregnancy, obesity, menopause, standing for long periods of time, or an injury to the leg. Doctors say the best way to diminish risk of developing spider veins is to get regular exercise. Walking is the best thing because it keeps the blood pumping and muscles of your calf in shape, giving more support to the veins.

If you are overweight, begin a fitness program that includes weights, which will build up support in the legs.

Doctors also point out, if you are concerned about developing spider veins, due to genetic predisposition, there are some things you can do like elevating your legs regularly, especially after exercise. This will take the pressure off your legs and make it easier for the valves to work and blood to flow. Make sure to elevate your legs to a level that is higher that your heart. If you cannot take adequate walking breaks at work, get up and flex your legs and ankles to stimulate blood flow.
