Here are the four true crime stories that have locked media television, thanks to the audience curiosity.
The West Memphis Murders
In 1994 in West Memphis, Arkansas, three teenagers, Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley, Jr., and Jason Baldwin were all arrested for murdering three young boys. It was a case that horrified the nation since the murder believed to be a satanic ritual. The three of the accused were convicted of the crimes and sentenced to life imprisonment and, in Echols case, the death penalty. Evidence that was going to let the West Memphis three get an evidentiary hearing, where they review the evidence against them and determine if a new trial should be granted. With the advance of new DNA technology, the State of Arkansas settled a plea agreement with the three of the accused and allowed them to submit Alford pleas which state that while the three admit that the State has enough evidence to convict them, they maintain their innocence. They were then released on time served.
Michael Jackson’s Molestation Allegations
Michael Jackson faced numerous allegations that he molested young boys late in his career. A father sued the musician of sexually abusing his 13-year-old son, Jordan Neil Chandler. This case brought a whole multitude of invasive peepholes into the King of Pop’s relationships with kids. Although Michael Jackson was found not guilty in this case, however, accusations of foul play never stopped following him.
Laci Peterson’s Murder
This was a highly broadcasted murder case of an American woman [Lace Denise Peterson] who disappeared while pregnant with her first child. Her body was later found without forearms and the left leg missing. On November 12, 2004, Scott Peterson [the husband] was convicted of first-degree murder in Laci’s death and second-degree murder for Conner’s death. The judge sentenced Peterson to death, describing Laci and Conner’s murder as uncaring, cruel, heartless and cold.
The Ariel Castro Kidnappings
These kidnappings took place between 2002 and 2004 when Ariel Castro kidnapped Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry, and Georgina “Gina” DeJesus were subsequently imprisoned by Ariel Castro in his house Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio until May 6, 2013, when Berry escaped with her six-year-old daughter and contacted the police. Castro was charged with three counts of rape and four counts of kidnapping on May 8, 2013. As part of his plea bargain, he pled guilty to 937 criminal counts of kidnapping, rape, and aggravated murder. He was sentenced to life and 1,000 years in prison without the chance of parole. Castro committed suicide in his prison cell one month into his sentence.
