The color of the sky will often be not very saturated, removing strength from the shots that include it to achieve the best results. Unfortunately, when the contrast is high, like during the central hours of the day, using this exposure measurement method can lead to results that are not in line with your expectations.
In fact, in these situations, inside a scene there are often extremely bright and very dark areas. You therefore find yourself having to choose which areas to display, or which ones you want to distinguish at the expense of others that will be too dark too light for Large Picture Frames.
To get the best result, in these cases you need to use a spot or partial exposure measurement mode, which allows you to calculate the correct exposure based on a fraction of the overall scene.
It seems trivial, but in many cases the best trick to manage an unsightly sunlight is simply to remove it. This means moving into the shadow that you can find for example: in the shady side of a house, under the trees and under a porch or any other object that can serve as a roof. Obviously, this trick is feasible only if the subject you want to photograph can be moved. It therefore works, for example, every time a portrait for Large Picture Frames is taken.
Even in the shade, pay attention to the light that filters. In particular, when you choose the shade of the trees, there is the risk of some sunbeam filters through the leaves, creating extremely bright points on your subject, which break the uniformity of the shadow.
Always check that this phenomenon is not present before shooting. To avoid this it is often sufficient to move a few centimeters. In post-production instead, improving the situation would be a difficult job. Moreover, if the subject allows it, you can also create your own shadow. To do this, an umbrella is enough, a dark cloth, anything that can create a sufficiently large shadow.
The problems related to the strong contrast present in a scene under the sun can be drastically reduced by reducing the size of the scene, or moving closer to the subject. Obviously, this advice is only applicable if you want to photograph a detail or a small subject. A good opportunity to use filters. Your best friend if photographers in broad daylight, outdoors and even including the sky, for example taking landscape photos, is the polarizing filter.
