Civil construction products like grates and covers are continually exposed to a tough environment. They need to be even tougher to survive and function well. Here are 3 properties that they all should have:
Resistance to Corrosion
The metal grates will need to be able to shrug off moisture or else their surfaces will soon develop rust. These are not only unsightly but also unwelcome in that they weaken the objects over time. Aside from using a good combination of base materials for the alloy, they should also be covered by anti-corrosion surface treatments that ward off water.
Lightness
Lightweight grates are easier to handle than heavy ones. For applications wherein they may need to be removed from time to time, this property is an important one. The lightness helps during the delivery as well. It is less costly to transport large quantities of the product across wide distances.
Durability
Finally, these items must demonstrate the ability to withstand high amounts of pressure. They may be placed beside a road where a car could pass over or an industrial site where heavy machinery can go back and forth. Durability is essential for safety.
