Reasons Why Babies Don’t Sleep Well And Some Of The Solutions.

Baby not sleeping well it’s not always a serious problem, but it’s also important to consult with a pediatrician so that they may establish the cause of lack of sleep. There are several reasons that contribute to babies not sleeping well and they are such as:

They are sleeping too late in the evening

This can be a reason because when a child sleeps for too long from 4 pm, they might have a hard time during bedtime. Taking too many naps in a day is also another factor that contributes to disrupted sleep at night thus leading to waking up so many times.

Environmental factors

This is when the baby is woken up by things around where they’re sleeping, which maybe too much light coming in the room in the early morning, internal and external noise or they are sharing a room with someone.

Developmental milestone

This stage might affect the quality of sleep babies get a night, example when a baby has learnt how to crawl or stand, they might wake in the middle of the night and start practicing their new learnt skill. It’s always important for a parent or guardian to ensure that the milestone does not completely alter their sleep pattern.

They don’t know to fall back to sleep independently

This mostly happens during bedtime, where the baby needs to be cuddled so that they can fall to sleep, or when they wake up in the middle of the night they do not know or to fall asleep on their own.

Separation anxiety

This may occur because the baby has been moved to a new bed or a new room, and they may not sleep well because they are not yet used to the new environment. Separation anxiety may also occur when there is a new born in the family, where they may feel that they are not getting the attention that they used to get.

Hunger

When a baby is hungry, they may not sleep well during the night, and it’s always important when ensure that they are well fed before bed time or one wakes up at night to feed them once they show some hunger cues.

There are several things that can be done to solve the problem of baby not sleeping well and they include: sleep training, swaddling the baby before bedtime, breasting or feeding them properly, giving them a pacifier, and also dressing the baby lightly to avoid overheating.
