The 4 Phases Of HCG Diet

The HCG diet is more than just the use of the hormone with the reduction of caloric intake. It is a long process that is divided into four major phases. The protocol was popularized by Kevin Trudeau with his book on HCG. Critics say that his version is flawed since it deviates from the original plan as described by the creator Dr. Simeons. Flawed or not, Trudeau’s 4 phases have become the established protocol for anyone who wishes to undergo this diet. We will describe each of them below. Please be reminded to consult your doctor before embarking on any type of weight reduction program.

Phase 1: Cleansing

hcg5This initial phase is what critics were strongly objecting to. It was not found in the original literature on HCG. The author started to tell everyone that it would be beneficial for them to go into a cleansing phase before tackling the heavy stuff. Most of the criticism was about the products that Trudeau was selling to promote this cleansing. Adding them to the equation made the whole protocol quite expensive which many thought was unnecessary. It also made things longer and people were keen to start right away so that they can see immediate results. This stage is largely considered optional. It may work for some but it is not a requirement.

Phase 2: Loading, Core and Taper

Here is where the actual weight loss begins. This stage varies in length depending on the source that you are following. The original plan is to have it last between 26 and 43 days. However, it has lately been stretched out between 15 and 45 days using new HCG diet drops. You can find HCG online. Choose what you prefer.

This phase can be divided further into three parts. The loading stage happens in the initial 3 days where subjects are expected to consume lots of high fat food items to top up their body’s storage system. Taking HCG drops begin as well. Then it’s time for the core stage which is the longest part lasting up to 38 days. Subjects must adhere to a 500-calorie restriction for their daily intake. The taper stage continues the extreme calorie restriction but the HCG is no longer ingested.

Phase 3: Stabilization

In this part of the program, subjects are given 3 weeks to make their weight stable. Much weight will have come off after the second phase and now the challenge is to make the body get used to this lighter condition. HCG drops no longer have to be taken. Even the calorie restriction is waived off. However, it is still forbidden to eat more than sugar or starch at this point.

Phase 4: Maintenance

The final stage is for the maintenance of the gains acquired during the previous weeks. The weight should now be stable, the HCG is gone, and the diet restrictions are off. It is possible to eat anything at this point although common sense will still apply. Eat healthy options to keep the figure.
