And to do this the marketing geniuses have used clothing or apparel as a marketing tool for their advertising for quite a few reasons
1: It is cheap to make but can be sold at any price in retail stores but so cheap it can be used as free “throwaway:” gifts as well. By this I mean at any of the events they promoters shoot (via clothes guns) or throw out theses clothing items to or into the crowd.
2: Collectors will pay almost anything for apparel worn by one of the reigning top performers of that motorsport if they win a race or a season, and these can easily be auctioned off at charity events or even just thrown into crowds when doing their victory laps.
3: But one of the best parts of advertising on certain clothing is safety reasons: I a formula one driver, for example, wears a certain brand name helmet or leather suit and has an accident during a race and comes out of the accident unscathed, it not only shows how good the product is and works but will want more people to use that brand of product.
- 2: MANUFACTURER AWARENESS: this brings us to the manufacturer’s side of the clothing. The brand that is chosen to be represented on any apparel worn by a motorsports participant whether for safety sake or performance and or other reasons will always be a positive effect or knockoff to the manufacturer if that person either wins or stays safe or even if they break records and this will lead to:
- Increase in sales of said brand and or product.
- Increase in awareness of the quality of that product and or brand.
- More promoters will take notice of the brand and or product and use them in the future for other participants or even sales on contracts.
- And talking contracts, the driver’s success will make his or her contract value grow with these brands and or products.
- 3: SPONSORSHIP DEALS: this all leads to what is the ultimate goal in wearing branded clothing either by the participant of the motorsport, manufacturing product or vehicle enthusiasts and or supporters of a brand or logo on any clothing is the revenue made off the sale of these items through these types of marketing can lead to more lucrative deals and or contracts when it comes to the professionals and their sponsorship deals.
So the next time you see someone wearing a t-shirt or baseball cap that has an automotive brand or name on it, you know why it is there, not just the person wearing it showing who or what he or she supports but what lies behind the marketing of that item.
